A Really Dumb, Obvious Epiphany

About a month ago, I took a long break from work while dealing with a mental health crisis. During this time, and in the ensuing days following my return to work, I became more aware of the issues I face and have been facing my entire life. It’s weird but, despite all of the issues I’ve been having, a lot of pieces have been falling into place lately concerning my mental state. Some are more obvious than others, but it’s comforting to finally understand the way I’ve been acting of late. I feel like I’m finally beginning to understand myself, albeit 27 years in. My Second Wrestling Show!

Most folk would probably go with

My First Wrestling Show!

but for me, my best experience lay within my second wrestling show attended. When it came to my first, I entered not really knowing what to expect but, with the second show, I was more confident in what to prepare and what to expect going in. Surprisingly, though, it also became of the more important things I’d ever done in the grand scheme of things. Continue reading “My Second Wrestling Show!”

“So, there’s this wrestler…”

I haven’t always been a wrestling fan. In the grand scheme of things, I’m still fairly new to all of this as a medium. In 2015, I was drawn to wrestling like a moth to flame curious as to how this was still as popular as it was when I was growing up. Now, I’m watching local, independent shows on the regular all around Britain. (Okay, so “All around Britain” might only encapsulate Edinburgh and Newcastle but I’m branching out soon!) It’s safe to say that I’ve become quite a big fan of the concept in the last 3 years.

One of the weirdest things I usually have to do as a lone wrestling fan amongst some of my friends is try to explain to folk why I like certain wrestlers. With some wrestlers, like the one I’m about to discuss, it certainly is a challenge to explain exactly why I enjoy them so much. It’s important to note that I do enjoy them and, quite honestly, I don’t understand the reasons for why others don’t.

“We will ban you… from the SummerFest”

One of the joys of learning about Photoshop and photo editing is being able to make edits like the one above. The one thing I try to do, when doing edits, is making things as clean as possible and as true to the real version as I can. Sometimes this is easy and sometimes this is hard. A lot of it comes down to the level of detail required when replicating something. With logos, especially the one above, it comes down to how easily can it be replicated and how much needs to be there to be a readable, believable replication. Last week, I spent a lot of time working with the WWE SummerSlam logo and I thought I’d run through the process of copying and replicating this iconic logo. Stream of Conscientiousness

In case you missed it last weekend, our charity livestream happened. We had a lot of fun, played a lot of games in the space of 12 hours and, in doing so, we raised over £500 for Inspiring Life. This amount trounced our previous target by over 100% and I couldn’t be prouder of everyone involved in this endeavour. In light of this success, I wanted to pull the veil back a little and tell you all the story of this stream from its origin to its eventual production. Continue reading “Stream of Conscientiousness”

An Inspiring Life

On August 11th 2018 from 11am to 11pm, my friends and I will be taking part in a Charity Livestream to raise money for Inspiring Life: The Evie Douglas Memorial Fund. We will be playing games and having a good time in order to raise a bit of money for a great cause in our community that raises awareness of mental health disorders and conditions. It is a cause that has resonated with me as someone who has dealt with mental illness in the past and who is currently dealing with some issues at the moment. I wanted to take this blog post to talk about the cause and why I believe raising money for it is a good idea. If you would like to donate to this cause, please check the link here or click the image on the sidebar of this blog.

The following blog post deals with subjects such as depression, anxiety and suicide. Please avoid reading if you are affected by such matters.

Give Me a Sign!

Wrestling signs have always fascinated me. The premise itself is pretty genius. It’s a way of getting your opinion across without getting lost in the melange of cheers and boos from the crowd you cohabit a venue with. Speech can get lost in a crowd, but the visual of a sign with your thoughts on it, serious or otherwise, is a little easier to spot. Why be loud when you can be seen? As I became more interested in wrestling, I designed a lot of these signs to bring to shows to show my support, experiment with visual media and experiment with jokes and humour at the same time.
